The New Testament is the part of the Christian Bible composed of a canonical (authorized) set of books and letters written after the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. It is thus designated from Tertullian in the Christian Church. On the contrary with the Hebrew Tanaj, called by the Old Testament Christians, the Christians, with the exception of the so -called messianic Jews, do not have the New Testament in common with the Jews.
The use of the term "testament" comes from the Hebrew word Berith ('covenant, covenant, agreement or provisions between two contractors'), through the Greek Diatheké, and the Latin testamentum. Some authors present the Old and New Testament names with which the two major sections are designated in which the Christian Bible is divided as the result of an error of interpretation of the word datheké, which means: 'desire' or 'will', and also 'agreement' or 'agreement'.
New Testament composition
The composition of the canonical New Testament was gradually set in the first centuries of the new religion. The oldest list is supposed to be written around 170.
The current list was originally posted by Atanasio de Alejandría in 370 and enshrined as a canonical in the third 397 Carthage council. However, disputes on the composition of the canon did not cease. Martin Luther questioned the relevance of including the epistle of Santiago, the epistle of Judas, the epistle to the Hebrews and the apocalypse of John or book of revelation; Although finally, unlike the Deuterocanonic of the Old Testament, they were never rejected. However, the canonization of 2 Pedro, 2 John, 3 John, Santiago and Judas, as well as Hebrews and Revelation, remains a matter of debate.
It includes, in total, 27 books in the canon of the Roman Catholic Church, accepted by most of the churches of the reform. The Syrian Church only accepts 22 books in its fee. Books like 1 and 2 of Clemente, the Book of the Alliance, the Octateuco and others, have been a reason for disputes, and are canonized by other Orthodox Catholic churches
Reina Valera
For 248 years the Queen-Valera version was not fully reviewed. In 1708 and 1831 the New Testament was reviewed, but it was not until 1850 that a complete review was made. This work was done by the American Bible Society. During the last half of the nineteenth century the Queen-Valera went through several revisions. The 1909 review was carried out by the British and foreign biblical society and is the one that predominated in the evangelical churches for 51 years. Today there are still many people and denominations that enjoy the reading of version 1909.
